Excellent advice. What about preferred tools etc. I use an andy Ellis lock ring tool for the chain whip and lock ring remover but its pedal tool I don't use. Cause it destroys my wheel nuts. So I bought a velodrome shop one that's perfect. I was wondering if there is a replacement one that's an all in one like the andy Ellis tool but lighter? And good quality. As I usually carry all my tools in my hip pouch. Cogs etc and the chainring on my back on a sling shoe bag with my water bottle.
Your current tools should be fine.
Also I use 160mm cranks. Hated 170s for pedalstrike on road and have been riding them for about a year now. Pretty use to the 10mm difference.
160mm cranks are damn short but if they work for you so be it, also what kinda BB drop does frame have to be getting pedal strike with 170s? I've never had it on any of my frames on road or track 45-80mm bb drop.
Yeah I haven't committed to any pedals and I know Seven04 and Robadob seem happy with their spd-sl setup. Maybe it's time for a change. But I do love my time atacs. At first my right pedal tried to kill me but now it's almost perfect and smooth as silk. Also I love ring able to Walk around from time to time.
Actually Rob uses campag clipless and Sven look Keo.
I've used both keo and SPD-SL and like tester says, especially in the basic models just get the cheapest one that isn't a keo easy.
I currently swap between 48 & 50t chainring and a 14/15 or 15/16 setup
I ride the 48/15 or 50/16 on road for DAWS
But use the 48/14 or 50/15 for rollers. I tried my 14 and 13 but damn my legs are too weak to sustain a 13. ONLY quit smoking a month ago so cardio is a bit rubbish and now regaining strength
Those gears are fine for track, you should gear down for road though.
Think of it like this, even if you like running those gears on the road, when you get on the track you'll have no more to give, drop to about 70GI on road, learn to spin and you'll be better off for if.
My track gear is 16-20 GI higher than my road fixed gear, for you to achieve that you'd be sitting at about 100GI, far too much for your/my/most people's level for track training.
