If you're only doing a few miles a day you can get whatever you want.
Personally I'd try and find one of the Boardman ss/fg. I don't think they make them any more, but you see them 2nd hand and they have good parts for the money. Otherwise the c'dale cappo is a good frame, so it'd be worth upgrading as the parts go.
Or a pomp for all the reasons above.
BUT WHAT IS YOUR BUDGET????????

There are some great ideas there guys, thanks. My buget would be around 6-700 for a complete bike of around 300/350 for the frame. I'll just have to do a bit more saving I think. In the mean time, I'm just going to rebuild my Muni-mula frame as a SS to play about on.
@ Garyb
Looking at your old bike set up do you have very short legs and very long arms ?I have both.

Now that what I am aiming at, anyone know where I can buy a BMW Gangsta Frame in North London,
XO, XO, Ashe.
Get an On-one Pompino.
Run it with risers, and street tyres.
Run it with dirt-drops and CX tyres
Run it with drops, road tyres and a rack'n'guards.
Very versitile, very cheap. Fiddle with it till you find out what type of bike you like best.
