  • Anyway....

So a lot of teams have emailed and messaged us in the last few days, saying they can't make Friday. We've currently only got 11 teams who can, so we are going to change the format.

Friday morning will be the court build, the more people are there (we are starting early in the morning), the quicker we can get them built, and start pickup.

Friday afternoon will be a bench tournament (number of teams/size of teams/format/how teams are picked will be confirmed later). This will be from 15:00 - 19:00. An online registration will be announced shortly, and there will also be on day registration, up to 14:00, at the courts.

Saturday there will be two groups, AM (9:00), PM (12:00), playing 4 rounds. The top 12 from each group will go through.

Saturday evening, from 16:00 will be another group for everyone not yet qualified, so currently 30 teams, who will play another 2 rounds to fight for the last 8 spots.

Sunday will be 32 team elim.

Everyone will get at least 6 games over the weekend, and for everyone in the top 32, likely quite a few more.

Please let me know if there are any team changes/missing players/etc, I don't know about, or have forgotten.

Please also let me know asap, if you can't make your group, otherwise these will be final.

  • Pretty sure our team name is actually Angela Merkel's Nocturnal Emission.

  • Surely now some people cannot make the Saturday/made some other plans? Super short notice.

  • TBC (Manchester 1): Adam (Manchester), Andy (Manchester), Sylwia (Manchester)

We're now 'Manchester B-Team' - need that in an email or anything?

  • Imaginative.

  • no games on friday now?
will the courts still be up on monday for throw ins?

  • There's a bench tournament instead on Friday - http://www.lfgss.com/post3779736-201.html

  • Ah. can't there for friday, but will probably still be around on the bank holiday.

  • Could there not be a smaller Friday group on the Friday instead of a bench minor? Could get through more games make it easier for saturday

  • No, the group would be down to 10 teams now, which just wouldn't be a fair format, if the others have 22 teams.

  • or even play some of the first round games if the teams are there to give more time for a guaranteed 5 games? (please dont let there be 4 games of swiss)?

  • So glad I am not playing...

  • Everyone will play at least 6 games...

  • That's not a lot of games.

  • It's more than last year (4 games, for many teams). With Friday it would have only been 1 more (at a push).

It's just not going to be possible to do any games on Friday, there simply aren't enough teams willing to play. We could do 5 games, with those 10 teams, and that's it. 1 hour saved doesn't give us any extra options.

  • IIRC last year was due to rain distruption. Good job on getting the scheduling done but I guess a BM tourney at an Open might not be a bad thing afterall. Would all 3 courts be used for the BM?

  • If there isn't enough demand for the Friday what's the point, Ben?

It's probably a blessing in disguise seeing as we couldn't get the courts for Thursday anyway...

  • how many teams go through to the double elim?

It's just something to keep people entertained, and give them a fun alternative, while offering competitive play (schools and various other organisations are scheduled to come and watch).

Will all 3 courts be used? unknown right now, if we have numbers, then yes. Currently 18 people signed up.

  • So glad I am not playing...

We're all pretty happy about it too.

  • Competitive is good but just thinking of throw-ins more than anything else, not that I am expecting the throw-ins to be less competitive.

    On ignore ;)

Judging from yesterdays throwins, i think you may benefit from not stepping up the intensity...
