One might say the same about you...

"Are you wiping yet?"
Not quite... Technically I could but I can't bend my arm due to plastic cast.

Remember kids, 20mph on 66" is 100rpm; if you can't do that pretty comfortably, it's time to learn, or admit defeat and fit variable gears.
^ perfect quote.

No results on a 25 mile TT in a competitive context. But I have some pretty decent results racing the hour, for an old man anyway, so I reckon I would do alright.
What are you? Danger Mouse or something? the world isn't going to implode the moment you released some figure to your supposedly 25 miles TT back in "the days" when you were a wee chappie.

Thanks to Branwen, O'Shane and Condor I'm now on 47/20 - so much easier on the knees :)

WOW spin to win :O
Proud :)

Spinning aside - lower gears are great for hilly areas, open roads with headwinds, stopping without brakes and I have used between 64 and 66 for years.
I do lose some time on sections where I could be doing 25mph as keeping up 125rpm can get a bit much (for my fitness levels) and watching geared riders pull away is annoying for my competitive side. -

Wouldnt you spin out pretty quickly on that gear? Or is it ok?

According to Sheldon, 48x19 with 700x25 wheels gives a GI of 66.6.
It's The Beast!

Don't rely on Sheldon if you're entering a medium gear race, I make it about 67.2" and that will vary a bit with tyre manufacturer and rim width.

mdcc_tester > Sheldon?
This may upset my world view.

So what ratios do you need if you want to ride The Beast?

On 700x25C, the closest to Beast Gear would be 45/18 or any other combination that's exactly 2.5:1

Woo! That's exactly what I'm riding.

Will 51x19 on a 25c Vittoria give me the predicted 71'' or something bigger then?
-

38x16 on 26" wheels with 2" thick tyres, nice and spinny at 61.2 GI

I'm currently running 42x16 which i quite like as I have a hilly commute.
I'm upgrading my cranks and thinking of switching to 46x17.
Will i notice much of a difference?
