I got a train from Dorking Deepdene this weekend, after my knee failed catastrophically on Box Hill (pathetic, I know). Strolled on at Deepdene, train to Redhill, then to Victoria. Obviously no barriers or ticket machine at Deepdene, so when I got off a Victoria I wandered around the station looking for someone to tell me how to pay for the trip I'd just taken.
After clip-clopping about aimlessly for a bit, a ticket-gate attendant called me over and ushered me through the larger ticket barrier with my bike, without asking for a ticket or anything. They don't help themselves, some times.

A number of times I have had the pleasure of getting on at a station without cattle gates and either accidently forgotten or the card didn't register and annoyingly had to pay a penalty on exit. Fucking annoying esp when the attendants don't want to hear the sob (but sadly true) story. Even cooler story
