Well...technically...you can still brake on it, it's just highly inadvisable, as I discovered as I tried to brake in wet weather after going at a fair clip. So that remains up to you.
Have a look at some machined 40mm's and see if you like the look. Maybe look around to see if you can machine it yourself (i.e sandpaper)
