Hey guys, I'm still trying to find the right bike for my daily ride to work and general pottering about on...
For many years I've been riding a 24" racing bmx with slicks, chopped down bars and a very long seat tube, I love it, it handles really well at low speeds for coming out of junctions, weaving between cars and is generally really predictable. It also absorbs much of the shittiness of the roads on my new daily commute.
My bmx is just too heavy for what I need tho, I bought a singlespeed a few weeks ago with an old 80s steel frame with lots of rake on the forks and a pretty slack head angle resulting in a bike that feels very planted at high speeds in a straight line but handles horribly at low speeds for example when weaving through traffic. The steering also likes to flip side to side when you stand up and pedal. new bars and a longer stem have gone some way to helping
I've realised I need something with much more direct steering as much of my commute is spent crossing busy roads, stopping and starting at junctions, navigating potholes, speed bumps, crack heads etc.
I'm thinking something with track style geometry but also with a wheelset that can suck up a bump without bouncing me around afterwards.
If you have something for sale that might suit please let me know or if you got an idea of any specific bikes i should be looking at then let me know too!
Oh yeh, can afford up to 300 english quid and it will need to be london based (im in brixton) as I would wanna have a wee try before buy.
