If it fits your 1/8 cogs then its a 1/8 chain. 3/32 chains will not fit 1/8 cogs, though the other way round will.

That's what I thought. Cheers.

But doesn't "Narrow" in general mean narrower than a standard 5 speed 3/32"?

The width of the chain (1/8 vs 3/32) generally refers to the distance between the inner surface of the inner plates. 3/32 chains come in a variety of specs i.e. 5/6, 7/8, 9, 10 and 11 speeds. They are all 3/32 but each is progressively "narrower" in the distance between the outer surface of the outer plates to cope with the progressively narrower gaps between the sprockets on cassettes with increasing number of gears.

I also suspect that the chains above 8 speed are really less than 3/32, but I haven't measured one.
My chain says "YBN narrow" on it (see photo). It also says 10J on one of the links. Anyone know what width it is? On google there's a YBN S8 chain which has the same link on, which is 3/32, but my chainring & cog are both 1/8 and running with no problems. Anyone have any ideas?
