  • got my H Plus Son TB14's wheels robbed this afternoon, outside a natwest, across from new scotland yard...unfuckinbelievable. They have BLB black mamba tyres with amber wall on them; these are near impossible to take off the rims as I've snapped many a tyre lever...also BLB front and rear hubs. What I'm trying to say is that the little prick will sell as stole...if anyone comes across these...stranger things have happened! worst of all, I'm on that bastard tube until I get the finds to replace the wheels....

  • funds rather than finds!

Silver or black? Also hate to be that guy, but with right levers, that is easily achieved. Takes a minute to remove the mambas from my TB14. Since they're also quite a ubiquitous looking wheels, so that might be a dead end. I wish you the best, but if whole bikes cannot be found, what hope is there for a couple of wheels. Good luck

  • So... The guy at Brick Lane on Sunday throughout the day selling used bikes near the brewery. I'm assuming, since he's there every week all day, that he's not selling stolen wares, right?

  • Actually saw parts of my bike (Stolen Monday 5th Aug 2013 - post here) at Brick Lane market this Sunday (11th Aug 2013). Unfortunately only the cheapest bits and not the nice frame, engraved GB drops bars or campag cranks...

Pics of the components : omega wheelset running 18t freewheel and 18t fixed, mud guard and miche front brake (still attached to the black brake lever from my bike) and the guy running the stall (black guy in red t-shirt and black body warmer) attached.

If you happen to have bought any thing from this guy - best to assume it IS nicked. If you happen to see these components or my frame for sale anywhere please message me :(

  • Have you reported the guy and sent the pictures to the police?

  • Silver...apart from aesthetics, another reason I bought them was that they don't look pricey...ah well, at least he didn't rob my 3rd brooks in as many years due to theft! I'm feeling some entrapment coming on!!!

  • Never been to Brick Lane market... Nor has the police apparently! How can dealing in stolen bikes and bits go on so openly unchallenged? Surely it can be hard to prove that the majority of these are stolen goods, but the police could at least challenge and/or stress the sellers, let alone buyers! From reading this thread and other info I get the distinct impression that these guys are not just bike enthusiasts exchanging parts.

  • I'm seeing so many fixed gear bikes with no foot retention these days.
Ridden by people who seem awkward and uncomfortable with the whole fixed thing, as if they wished the pedals would just stop spinning for a moment. Yesterday I saw a lovely fixed conversion with clip in pedals ridden by a bloke in normal trainers.
Surely a good proportion of these are stolen bikes?

Look at that scowl! I see this guy sometimes and pretty much assumed as much. Sorry about your bike :(

  • Had my specialized langster 2011 (Ali frame not steel) knicked today in bermondsey se London, was d locked and chained and locked up in a gated area that's manned and on camera, didn't stop the rats that took it tho. Any info massively appreciated.

  • Sorry about your loss mate. Still I can't quite get my head around this... We're talking about a supposedly securely locked bike in a gated, manned and CCTV monitored area. How the fuck did that happened?

Sorry about your loss mate. Still I can't quite get my head around this... We're talking about a supposedly securely locked bike in a gated, manned and CCTV monitored area. How the fuck did that happened?

Maybe (likely) someone else who uses the lockup and has been eyeing yours up for a while?

We already know that good bike thieves can steal a D-locked bike pretty quick and make it look like they're just unlocking it and riding away. He might have conned security into letting him in as well ("forgot my key, mate!")

The security at our old workplace's bike lockup were well dodgy, didn't trust them one bit. Rode my shite MTB and nothing better than that on the occasion I needed to be in the office there.

The worst security is false security, I don't think you can treat a manned, CCTV'd or locked bike area any different to the open street when it comes to your bike being nicked. If someone wants your bike, they'll find a way to take it.

What was it locked to? How was the d-lock cut?

  • Surely a manned CCTV monitored lockup should be considered somewhat safer than open street parking... Or are you saying that "secure" parking is completely pointless?

  • Another friend had a bike nicked off Columbia Road last night. It looks like this:

    Cougar 653 Reynolds frame
    Shimano 105
If you could keep an eye out it would be much appreciated, DM me if you see it

    thanks

Not completely useless, but yeah pretty much. Same goes for communal hallways in shared accommodation. Why would you think your bike is any more secure in a place where people you don't know well have access to it and could let a friend steal it?

I used to lock my bike in my room (behind a locked door) in the shared flat I had. Better safe than sorry. In terms of work, I wouldn't ride anything that I would be gutted to see stolen.

  • The bikes been recovered, Tower Hamlets police raided a house and found a ton of bikes including the one above.

If you're bike has been stolen in the area recently it might be worth giving Bethnal Green police a shout

  • Epic win >>>

  • Where abouts in Bethnal?

Nice to know. Had one taken when I first moved to London. Custom built by myself. Was never found. :(

  • I get the occasional press release from the police with good news stories:

Cycle thief caught red handed is jailed

A cycle thief has today been jailed for 12 weeks after being caught red handed stealing a bike in Wandsworth

John Holloway, 24 year (Dob 05/12/88) of Long Lane, SE1 was sentenced at Wimbledon Magistrates Court today (15/08/13) to 4 weeks imprisonment for theft of a pedal cycle. He will also serve an additional 8 weeks imprisonment as a result of him re-offending while subject to a suspended sentence for a previous theft of pedal cycle offence.

A second man, Thomas O'Connor, 21 years (Dob 30/06/1992) of Swan Road, SE16 was fined for handling stolen goods.

On Wednesday 24th April officers from the Cycle Task Force and Wandsworth Safer Transport Team, part of the Transport for London funded Safer Transport Command were carrying out a bicycle operation in Balham as part of Project Cycle Ops - a partnership initiative to tackle cycle theft in the Capital.

Officers witnessed both O'Connor and Holloway approach a locked bicycle at Balham train station. O'Connor, who was on a Raleigh Urban 700 bicycle, acted as look-out while Holloway cut the lock.

Both were quickly detained by officers who carried out checks on the Raleigh bicycle O'Connor was riding. Officers checked* BikeRegister.com* as there was a security marking on the frame. The Raleigh was indeed registered on their database, however the owner was not O'Connor. The legitimate owner was contacted who informed officers he had left his bicycle secured outside his home address in Balham High Road that morning and had just returned home to find it was no longer there.

The fact the owner had security marked and registered his Raleigh on* BikeRegister* resulted in the bike being recovered and subsequently returned to him.

Chief Superintendent Sultan Taylor, Safer Transport Command said: "Had the stolen Raleigh not been security marked and registered, officers would not have been able to identify an owner. We encourage all cyclists to register details of their bike on the MPS preferred cycle online registration service - www.bikeregister.com for this reason.

"We are determined to bring cycle thieves to justice and are working closley with BTP, City of London Police and Transport for London to reduce cycle theft accross London."

  • My 2011 Condor Lavoro was stolen yesterday from inside my flat in SW6.
It's a 52cm frame, with Speedplay pedals and Brooks special edition 2009 Bike Polo World Championships saddle.

Please shout out if you see it around.
