Guillot late 50s/ early 60s

  • Got this on a trial before I buy, paint is a bit shoddy and bubbling in places, cottered 165 BSA cranks, 27in wheels, weinmenn calipers, looks like original stem and bars by the corrosion.

Really comfy path racer geo and mudguard mounts too.

So what do I do with it? Quick resto with non period parts or full re-spray such?

    Any ideas gratefully received........

  • I personally like the colour, so a respray to bring it back up to "like-new" condition would be cool followed by a full restoration with period parts...and if you can get the original decal back on as well would be great.

  • its not the original colour, I have had a long chat to the daughter of the guy that originally bought it from Guillott's, she reckoned it was a deep dark red, it does still have the head badge which is ace and the lugs although not pretty do look like they are shiny where the paint has worn off- chromed or stainless? not sure yet.

  • Looks nice.

I know someone looking for a chainring set for a geared AS Gillott, (for an 70s or 80s model, I think). He's had no luck finding one. Any ideas where he could source that? It's non-standard apparently.

  • no sorry, this came into my LBS and they immediately thought of me- nice chaps!

  • Can't it be ridden just as it is? As this would be my first spontaneous reaction for that bike...

  • yeah I have used it a few times, think I need longer cranks and would like to sort out the bubbles on the frame, some are pretty bad. So I need to do a few bits it just depends on how far to go really

  • really nice frame. what head badge is it? can you take some pictures of the f+r dropouts?

have a read of this. It should help you date the frame....it is also a great read.
