I trackstand when I commute on my road bike, it saves missing the pedal and faffing around. Also means you can pull away quicker in a bigger gear.
Isn't that better achieved by starting one foot flat on the floor then standing on the other pedal to lift yourself back onto the saddle? Weight transfer and all that.

Hint - next time you make a hilarious joke try sticking in a grain of humour and people might spot it.
Edit. Why do you sign off as 'Dick' when your name is Andrew not Richard?
You should practice what you preach...Dick.

With both feet clipped in, one can also pull up on the rear pedal at the same time. -

hmmmm, so i'm definitely a dick for track-standing but at the exact same time also not a dick because track-stands are cool.
schrodinger's trackstand : /
maybe i'm only a dick if i'm observed?

I actually think it has improved my cycling, the desire not to have to put a foot down. I anticipate reasons to stop a long way in advance, and approach things cautiously rather than weaving in and out of traffic like a dick, and pushing past other cyclists to get to the front. I hang back where I have more space.

I trackstand in fluorescent clothing with many flashy lights on my bike in the daytime. I'm singlehandedly making it uncool.

I did notice yesterday that when starting off I put a lot of pressure on the second (left) pedal stroke (as I'm already clipped in), and a rather ominous "crack!" noise was coming from the front end.
Hopefully I've not put sufficient force through the bars to crack the steerer, that truly would be dickish.

I'm sure I read somewhere years ago that the upward moving foot doesn't 'pull' the pedal at all, it pushes down on it, despite what we might think or what we are trying to do. But perhaps that is better left for Any Question Answered By A Condescending Bore.

Hard to do at high cadence as you have to get your hip flexors firing correctly but easy in a standing start.

I think I annoyed this guy trackstanding at the lights yesterday. I rode up and put a foot down, watched the other lights, saw them change and zoomed off the second our ones went amber leaving him still wobbling. He took umbrage and chased me down, where upon we hit another red and the entire process was repeated.
So trackstanding ain't all it's made out to be. So there.

When someone ends up in a trackstand position at 90 degrees to the direction of traffic, possibly even with their front wheel pointing a little back the way they came, it doesn't make for a quick restart.

I like to push them over.

Track Tipping? It could catch on.

Do you have to sneak up to them while they're sleeping to tip them?

People on Boris bikes routinely run into my rear wheel when I am trackstanding at lights- does this happen to people who put their foot down?
