• Hi all

Been planning a new (to me) fixed gear build for a while now.

Sold my last fixed gear to build up my road/ audax bike Van Nicholas Yukon, lovely bike but not the most happy leaving it locked up in the street!

Now I'm in the position to build a fixed gear up again with the purpose of being a town/ can lock it up anywhere build, which means keeping the costs down, hopefully with your help under £200.

The road frame is on the way a 531 frame built for 27 inch wheels, cost me £81 along with brand new headset and stem.

Wheels Open pro on Miche - £85 along with Miche bottom bracket

Bars system ex and Shimano exage brakes £12

Takes the total so far to £178

With the parts I already have that means I've got to buy brakes (long drop), cables, chain and seatpost. If anyone has anything please give me a shout.

  • I've got a seat pin you can have, just cover the postage. Its nowt fancy but its black and 27.2 in good nick.

    An option for you.

  • I'm about to start my first project, hoping to keep to a similar project. I'll watch this one and hopefully pick up a few tips. Good luck with the project

  • Why not build/buy 27" wheels?

    Like these bladdy bargains?

  • Didn't see them - plus means I can use the wheels for longer and not worry about availability of 27 inch tyres.

  • Ah right, well, continental 27" tyres are readily available, but wasn't sure if you had already bought the open pros or not....

  • Yes got the wheels already.

  • Wheels have arrived - will by putting Panaracer Pasela on them.

Frame should also be arriving today, which depending on the size of the seat post I may have most of the build apart from the deep drop brakes and cables.

I'll post some pictures up later.

  • Hit a couple more hurdles last night. Seat post I thought would fit doesn't. Means I'll have to order a 27 or 26.8 post.

BB I received with the wheels also doesn't look great so I'll be ordering a new 107 possibly tange to replace that.

Means I'll have to go with the brakes mentioned up thread instead of the Tektro which may have been of better quality.

  • gonna keep an eye on this build. i'm gonna start something similar for a beater/daily commuter once i move down to london, looking forward to see how yours comes along!

  • why dont you try ebay or if theres an auction house near you try there, im constantly buying half decent road bikes from police auctions and stripping them for parts and its usually dirt cheap and you still get good quality newish parts.
