Stolen bikes

  • Hello

Had my white fixed stolen from Graham Road on Sunday night / Monday morning. Pretty unique as I fabricated the rear dropouts myself - they've got TOM CECIL and #110/2 stamped on the underside.

Can people keep a eye out.

    Cheers

    Tom

Tom there was an unnaturally huge collection of white single speed/fixed bikes today down Brick Lane in the bike section to the left hand side opposite that gated area. Some with cheap wheel sets replaced but I also noticed loads of expensive wheels lying nearby...I would recommend having a look next week as well. I will pop down next weekend as well and have a look through.

I wish I saw this post earlier.

  • Wot?

Hmmm... Noiser more like Silence. But if you do want to let Jenni know if you've seen it by all means.

  • Just spotted my bike somewhere, was stolen in April so don't give up looking. Hopefully copshop/cycle task force can help me out.

  • Some muppet nicked a bike at the FreeCycle event and was then photographed riding it along the Mall by the official photographer. That is, assuming the person in the picture, riding a stolen bike, is the thief, but that's a pretty strong assumption.

I don't quite understand the detail about 'race numbers still attached' and being in the area 'before the race'. It sounds as if the rider was doing the FreeCycle as well as having already attached his race numbers for the sportive the next day, but I didn't realise that there was a photographer taking pictures of all FreeCycle riders and that they were posted on-line by race number. Whatever, this may be what a bike thief looks like, in case you've never seen one.

Police appeal after Ride London cycle theft**

Police Officers from the joint Transport for London and Metropolitan Police Service Safer Transport Command Cycle Task Force are appealing for help in identifying a man following the theft of a bicycle at Ride London FreeCycle event.

The bicycle, which belonged to a 42-year-old man cyclist taking part, was stolen from Green Park near Constitution Hill, SW1 before the race at 1300hrs on Saturday, 3 August.

It was securely locked by its owner and subsequently the lock was cut by thieves.

The participant returned to find his bike had been stolen and he then notified the Met's Cycle Task Force who were stationed at the event.

An official Ride London photographer taking pictures of all riders participating captured the stolen bike, with race numbers still attached, being ridden along The Mall.

The victim found the images posted online by official photographers and subsequently passed them onto the Cycle Task Force.

Police investigating the theft would like to trace the male in the photograph.

The suspect is described as a white man wearing a blue cycle helmet, sunglasses, a blue and white striped t-shirt, beige/grey shorts and blue and white shoes.

The bike stolen was a green Trek Madone 4.9.

PC Charlotte Brierley, of the Cycle Task Force, said: "The victim was about to take part in the FreeCycle event when his bicycle was stolen. The theft took place in the middle of a very busy event and we are urging people who were there who may have seen anything to come forward.

"As a result he could not take part in the event which he was looking forward to participating in."

Anyone with information is urged to contact PC Brierley who is leading the investigation for the Cycle Task Force on 07768 928456 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

  • Epic fail thread>>>>

Hope he gets busted, someone should surely recognise his guppy face.

  • What a fucking cunt... Surely someone can identify the bastard based on the photos.

  • He seems to have proper cycling tan lines as well. That really annoys me, he could be any one of us.

  • or they could be just t-shirt tan lines... but he does know how to ride a bike, so yeah any one of us.

  • Probably "work related" tan lines... the cunt even brought a helmet.

  • Unbelievable

  • I used to live in the building right on the Sclater Street market (off Brick Lane) where 30+ stolen bikes were sold each Sunday. (I posted about them in this thread at the time, but my posts got little notice).
My point anyways, is how fucking normal all bike thieves and the people who buy stolen bikes look. So yes, could be anyone basically.

  • Depford market seems to be an interesting place as well as the sunday carboot at new coveant garden.

I've been a regular at Deptford Market for the past year, going most Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays around 7.30-9am. I never got the impression it's a market for stolen bikes.

It's the same traders week in, week out, and there are often market inspectors about. The house-clearance guys at the start of Douglas Way by the park, and at the other end in the square, have been working the market for decades and I'm sure are not in the market for stolen bikes.

You do sometimes see bikes sold by the stalls towards the end of Douglas Way just before it meets the square, near the video games & white-goods stalls. Mostly they look like beat-up old BMXs, hybrids, etc. It's very rare to see a fixed or single-speed. But if ever a stolen bike was sold on the market - which again I think would be a rare occurence - that's where I'd expect to see it.

What...Nooooo.... Not through the D-lock. Damnnnnn...These thieves are really making us have to carry a kitchen sink now. Geez. I love my D-lock and trusted it in Shoreditch but no longer. Man I feel your pain.

  • There's no such thing as a D-Lock that can't be cut but some of them are much more work than others. If you don’t man up and carry the best (and heavy) locks, you're multiplying the risk of theft. It never reduces to zero, though.

  • Reported my stolen bike I saw for sale online to cycle task force, they are looking into it. I found my wheels online before which they did bugger all about so won't be surprised if nowt happens this time. May buy it myself if the price remains at the stupidly low level. It's up for collection.
