I like that spiral idea. I'm sure an attractive end destination in Bexley could be found.
-
• #28
Why not start in Bexley?
-
• #29
Ian wants to start in Barnet for purely selfish reasons.

Are we allowed to count "rest of the world" as a 34th zone which we can visit only once ?
If so, we could cut out the ugly non-spirally Havering Lurch by starting in Havering, using the Dartford crossing and then cutting back in to Bexley.

Well, the Dartford Crossing is the M25, a notoriously cold place for cyclists, so no. Unless:

Great idea, up for this for sure.

A very rough route, just to get an idea of the total distance

Great idea, up for this for sure.
+1. Let's just find a date a couple months ahead then people hammer out the details of Earthloop's spiral route between now and then.

up for this

Saturday the 26th of October, to pick a date at random. Counterproposals welcome.

Boy,
184.5 kms, when the M25 is only 188.3.OK this route is 2+, smaller radius loops,
but I guess that shows the power of fractals. -
• #39
potentially 185 very slow kms

^ 10 hours if my 'training route' round suburban Hillingdon,
(while son is at tennis lessons), is any indication. -
• #41
I like the sound of this too...

This is the only way I've found to see the route against a map of the borough boundaries, does anyone know a better way ?
In google maps:
- My places
- CREATE MAP
- Import
- Import this map of the borough boundaries: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?authuser=0&vps=5&hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&output=kml&msid=204895236060369963394.0004e428ad479cbc8ded8
- Import the spiral route from ridewithgps, by pasting in the target of the kml link on the ridewithgps export tab
- Done
- The new map in My Places should have a KML link, if it doesn't adding a comment to your map sometimes makes it appear
- Copy and paste the target of the google maps KML link into the google maps search box and click - this allows you to view the whole thing on one screen.

Will we need spare brake pads due to all the millions of traffic lights?
-
• #44
Or spare rear tires, depending on your preferred braking mechanism.

• #45
i like the smell of napalm / rubber in the morning ... around midday and well on into the evening as well
-
• #46
This route is never going to be a clean looking spiral (because of the need to duck into Havering at the top right) so I think it makes sense to tweak it to be shorter and less trafficlighty where possible, even at the expense of some spiralness.

Both a bit north bexley, I'd like to start from south bexley to keep the distance down if we can. Based on google earth, Sidcup Place looks like a fairly good meeting and starting point:
... anyone have local knowledge ?
