the original pedals sold with these shoes were plastic jobbies with a flat one side and the Look fixing the other side.
Yes the cleat is slightly recessed.
I found the shoes to be not so good for real riding, playing about prob ok- there's no strength in the sole as in an MTB shoe, it twists quite a fair bit as you unclip too.
So saying that, an Audax mad man 600km Paris-Brest-Paris etc swears by them.
A good idea at the time.
