    Questionable about legality, and certainly dangerous, they don't have a spring, so they can really easily close on your fingers whilst buttering your baguette.
    Just keep the lock ring and don't threaten anyone, and have a list of the things you use it for as a defence in the unlikely event of you being asked why you have it.
    And don't take it to the pub, school, airport and stuff. You'll be fine!
