I would advise taking your place behind the vehicle in front, or anywhere you can find a space inbetween vehicles, in the lane most relevant to your travel, and not to attempt any sort of overtaking manouvre until one is clear of the lights. Why this rush to get to the front of the queue all the time, I'll never understand. You need to hold your ground and occupy a safe space (although this does assume you travel at a decent speed).
