http://www.stephenfry.com/2013/08/07/an-open-letter-to-david-cameron-and-the-ioc/single-page/Obviously good that people are using the Winter Olympics to highlight gay rights issues in Russia. But if the IOC is cool with hosting the Olympics proper in China, not to mention allowing countries with laws against homosexuality participating in the games I don't think they'll give too much of a fuck about a English comedian sending them a letter.

Doesn't mean we should halt the dialogue though. Plus the Russia situation is in escalation. There is legislation and decriminalisation taking place now which wasn't before. The world of culture and sport can do a lot to highlight this and potentially embarrass entire countries to amend their approach.

he may be rather full of himself but I don't think Fry thinks they'll give too much of a fuck either. the point of open letters is not so much the recipient's reaction, as the exposure it gives the issue (helps if you're famous and vaguely articulate). as Wrongcog says, the situation there is getting worse.

5 soldiers collapse on the same day in the Brecon Beacons, while training during a heatwave. 3 die. tragic.
-
• #25342
Didn't that happen a while ago? This can't be a new incident can it?
-
• #25343
^ Do you even read?
Its the same incident, third soldier died on Tuesday (30th) in hospital. Seems odd that they are mentioning Human Rights, I would assume that there would be far more relevant bits of legislation for the investigation?

The article? I read the opening paragraph which said "two weeks" and thought it was more recent than the incident I was thinking of, hence the question.
No, I'm not going to read the whole article.

I think the key learning from this video is that Vegemite is both Kosher and Halal.

yeah it's old news but still currently "in the news" because of the latest coroner's report.
I missed it at the time and just thought it was a really tragic story. -

There is nothing like an arsehole who thinks he can do what he wants receiving quick and violent justice from a pensioner to put a smile on your face.
And always nice to be reminded that, despite what the Daily Mail like to say, you can pretty much do what you want to intruders so long as you stop short of shooting them in the back.
This.
In droves.
