Fyxation Eastside Newbie Build

Posted on
  • I've always been a mountain biker, built a few bikes, but fancied a single speed/fixed gear road bike for a change, and as a little project, so found a Fyxation Eastside in the classifieds on here which I am just waiting to get. It's coming with forks, BB, cranks, headset and a stem, so need to source the rest, but being new to road stuff could do with some advice!

Wheels - Want to get a wheelset, 700c, with a Flip Flop hub, and has to match the bike, as I want it to look good! Want to keep the build reasonably cheap, looking around it seems I can get Nologo rims on Quando hubs for around £80, or Weinmann DP18 on Miche hubs for around £100. Either any good? Have read that the Quando hubs are a bit cheese like. Happy to go second hand as well, but after a matching pair in black, or could live with white.

Brakes - Planning on running brakes front and rear, but have been reading about different drop brakes. Do I need to wait until I get the wheels, or is there a standard drop for 700c wheels?

    Any help much appreciated!

  • You'll be told on here to stay as far away from no logo wheels as possible but tbh, they're all I could afford at the time of my build and they've taken a beating but still going strong after over 6 months.
You'll find much higher quality wheels for the same price, second hand on here though. Just be patient I'd say.
If single speed, you can run both brakes. If you want fixed, its pointless running a rear brake, thats what your legs are for.
Couldn't help you with brake drops, I've never had any brakes on mine!!
Good luck with the build. Keep the thread updated with plenty of pictures

  • Brake drop will depend on your frame and fork. The Fyxation looks to take a standard drop road caliper. Best thing to do is buy the wheels, fit them and then measure the brake drop, then you can be sure.

  • Shall keep this updated with photos, hoping to get the frame in the next couple of days. After a bit of research, think I know the brake drop, so have got myself a cheap set of Miche calipers.

  • Just got the frame:

  • The wheels with the Miche hubs I am looking at, say the spacing is 115 for the rear, my frame is 120. Will this cause any problems, or will I just need some spacers. Any problems with chainline, or is this easily adjusted?
