I'm not really sure about this, because I've never done the other routes, but either commuting NW -> SE or NW -> W (NW11 to South Bank or Paddington) just doesn't have the same problems as East to Central or South to Central - fewer nodders, fewer irate cars/buses. My main concern is getting plenty of clearance from the lorries on Finchley Road. Although, I tend to leave the house by 6:30/7:00, when the roads are generally emptier.
Of course, this might be a classic case of 'if you think none of your mates are cunts, then you're the cunt'
