    You have about 2000 calories of glycogen stored and you are burning 800 calories an hour riding your bike so the critical point is around 3 hours when glycogen stores say bye bye.

    You have to start fueling before that point to be able to consume the additional 2500-3000 calories needed for 6 hour ride (@ the max of 400 calories/ hour or so you can absorb)
