Freecycle: Child's bike, single speed

  • Kid's bikes are such a ripoff. Whatever you pay for them is too much, they are all crap and a year later it's too small. Son No. 2 has outgrown this so it's time for it to go. This would probably be good for a seven to nine year old (20 inch tyres).

It weighs a tonne, like everyone's first bike. My son learned to ride without stabilisers on this, and now he likes to go in circles at Herne Hill. He doesn't put in much effort yet, he's more smiles than pain face but there is plenty of time for that later. Anyway, it did what it needed to do, specifically get him on a bike.

At first I thought I would sell this, but I hate evil bay and they don't go for much anyway. Then I thought I would offer it here. But whatever sum, no matter how small, seemed too much to me. So here is the offer, open to anyone with a little yellow star next to their name. This is yours for a 10 pound donation to the forum, with the request that when you are done with it you pass it along in a similar fashion. That way Velocio gets a little coin, your child gets a bike and a lifetime of happiness (this last part may not actually be true).

    Does that sound fair?

    Here are the details:
Apollo Gradient 20 inch child's bike (that is the tyre size, not the seat tube). First bought from Halfrauds. Single speed. I don't know how many GI because I never cared enough to count the teeth, although at one point I was curious.

I am having phone issues at the moment so pictures of it in its current state are a little problematic, but I do have this hipstagram from some time ago that proves it can put a smile on a child's face.

It's still in good nick and everything works, I am pretty sure. Been kept in a shed so not rained on. Needs a clean and some air in the tyres. Collect from SE10 please. Pharoah

  • Awww. Nice kid. Nice gesture.

  • Thanks Laurence. Should have mentioned, this would probably suit a seven to nine year old (he's not quite nine in that picture). Will get a pic of its current condition tonight.
