• For sale is my beloved Scapin Road Racer. 57cm.

The frame is an outstanding example of Italian craftmanship.

Made from Columus Genius tubing, it has a very large downtube for its time. Investment cast dropouts on both the frame and fork.
Front end tubes (headtube, downtube, toptube, seattube) are tig welded together for stiffness. The chainstays are brazed into lugs on the BB shell and the dropouts are brazed into the seat/chain stays.
The brazing of the seatstays onto the seattube is the neatest example I have ever seen.
The fork features oversize blades for stiffness and again are tig welded to the steerer and finsihed with investment cast dropouts to keep it tracking tight.

At my previous employer I was lucky enough to visit the Scapin workshop and paint facility in Italy. The attention to detail at Scapin is second to none. For example, they have mitering fixtures which cut both ends of the tube to ensure the miters are absolutely straight. These guys now make very high end stainless frames for some prestigious brands.

The paintwork is a typically loud italian job. The red and blue sections actually have a slightly glittered effect which can be seen in bright light.
The frame is chromed under the paint. There are a few chips on the frame where this shows through - around the BB shell, seatclamp.
The driveside chainstay features a fully exposed chrome section.
I'm not going to say the condition of the paint is immaculate, there are chips/scrapes as you would expect. There are a few spots of rust inside the fork legs.
I've put black tape on for the sale but have previously used blue and red which both complement the bike nicely.

    Components

    • Campy Record Headset
    • Deda Murex Stem
    • Deda 215 Shallow bar - shot peening a little tatty around the clamp area
    • Fizik Microtex Bar Tape - brand new
    • Campy Centaur Seatpost (don't see many of these kicking around!)
    • Selle Italia Flite Saddle

    Groupset
Please note this is a far superior groupset to the current Veloce campag are chucking out of the far east. This stuff is from when it was a mid-range groupset. Xenon and Mirage used to exist beneath it.
The shifters feature metal internals (no crappy plastic here!). You can change multiple gears with both thumb and finger paddles - unlike more recent cheap quality campag.
I use Sram Force on my main summer bike, but I have an identical groupset to this one on my winter bike. It doesn't feel like i'm riding old junk when you jump on the Veloce. It works great. You can actually service the shift levers too - rather than replacing crappy plastic internals!

    • Campag Veloce 9 Shifters
    • Campag Veloce Skeleton brakes
    • Campag Veloce chainset - 53/39t
    • Campag Veloce BB
    • Campag Veloce Cassette
    • KMC chain (silver I think - decent quality)
    • Campag Veloce Rear Mech
    • Campag Centaur front mech

    Wheels
Nucelons were replaced by Neutrons a few years ago and the idea is the same. Light and lively to ride but with decent strength.
The previous owner set the pads up wrong and soem anodising has come of the rim (the pads were set too low on the brake track). Cosmetically not great but structurally fine. Bearigns are reasonable in the hubs. Running pretty true.

    • Campag Nucleon
    • Continental Gran Prix 24c Black Chilli Tyres

no pedals - can chuck in a basic set of pedals with clips/straps if you need something to get rolling. Bike deserves spds really!

As you can tell from this rambling post - i'm pretty obsessed with this bike. Unfortunately its gotta go.
Would make a great commuter or road bike for somebody - or as i've had it - just for the hell of it!
Looking for a very fair £650 PRICE DROP £500!!!!!
