It will be interesting to see- my only experience of this sort of thing has been the London to Brighton, which has an additional 8,000 official riders, and who knows how many unofficial riders.
Whilst there are staggered start times for that ride they make no attempt to base that on predicted speed on the road- although the more experienced people do try to get the earliest slots.
Anyway, even leaving just after 6am the roads are mental on the LtoB, I wanted to try to set a fast time last year but ended up averaging 14mph for the first hour, then 19mph for the second two hours, simply due to the number of people on the road.
It may be different on Sunday- if everyone takes off like their arse is on fire then it may be possible to average 20mph from the gun, it'll be interesting finding out anyway.
