  • Ted, may I ask how much do you weigh?

    How's the 753 Mercian ride?

I'm a porky 104kg at the min and about to build up a large 753 Mercian, but was wondering about if the frame would be alright with me at that weight?

The IF, Mercian and Colango are all fantastic...

  • I'n not sure exactly how much I weigh, around 90kg I guess but would not be surprised if a few kg more.

I haven't done mad miles on the Mercian but it has been a really nice bike to ride, agile and noticeably light with no flex from the b/b to speak of (although I've only got steel bikes might be more of an issue if you have very stiff carbon or aluminium). It survived the uneven surfaces of the medium route at l'eroica last year with me aboard and I'll be taking it again next month. Not sure if that helps.

Oh, and thanks for kind words on the IF and Colnago, I really should ride the latter more/at all.

  • I'm 104kg at the min

I'm 72kg, and I find that 753 rides nicely. Hope this is helpful :-)

  • I'm 74kg and seriously enjoyed my 753, so much I'm getting it repaired.

I'm not gonna lie though, I did notice it was very flexible when compared with aluminium and even a little compared to other steel frame I've had but it's still beautiful.

    .

    Very helpful thanks.

  • Very nice bikes there Ted!

Do you have gripshifters on the drops of that Bontrager?

  • Do you have gripshifters on the drops of that Bontrager?

Yes, they are the original Gripshift for drop bars. They work ok but I suspect I'll end up fitting some barend shifters.

  • Are those oval chainrings on the bontrager?

  • Biopace yes.
