You're asking 2 questions, will it be ok? Yes. Will it affect handling? Yes.

Ok, will it be detrimental to the handling and make it dodgy? Or just a case of getting used to it?

I think whether you find it detrimental is a very personal decision, it's different. Depends how much you load it with too.
I would stick with a rear rack and top bag or panniers if you're worried about handling.

Just different handling, front end will be heavier, also depends on yr set up and how much beer is in the front rack ;-)

Simplez no? Yes and yes, but be realistic. I like a front rack, makes me forget about speed and just cruise in peace.

I've got a front rack on my bike. It's certainly not made for a rack as it's quite racy geo, but it works a treat when the rack is empty and ok when it's packed. I think it's well worth having a less than ideal ride when fully loaded if you can't get an ideal frame. It's better to have a rack you can load, than no rack, whatever the handling. Especially if it's only getting home from the shop.
As per title. I was going to build a steamer but the pomp's are too good a deal to turn down now they'll take bigger tyres.
Question - will a front porteur rack be ok on a pomp?
