Ride London 3 - 4th August

Just moving this from LHBPA so everyone can see the details, it has been organised in a very short space of time and James will be the main contact for it:

Sat: 8 mile clockwise route through the city, there is a rest stop with a feeder loop going through St Pauls, the whole route will be closed to traffic completely and the plan is to build a 13 x 30M wide court on the road to the right of the cathedral. Start: 9AM, Finish: 4PM. There will also be Bikeworks, LCC, CTC, Dr Bike, flatland BMX, etc in the same area. Court build would happen 5-8AM, court takedown would happen 5-7PM. The court would then be stored overnight.

Sun: 100 mile route going out to Surrey via QE Olympic Park and Green Park at 6-8AM, Elite riders go out at 12.45PM. Cycling Festival starts at 11AM in QE Olympic Park. There will be a 20 x 40M polo court built on bridge F03, nearest to the Copperbox on the signed walking route. Court build would happen 8-11AM and takedown would start at 4PM. The court will then be stored in Greenwich (I think) for future use, I have already asked about using it at Herne Hill for events.

Court spec: Very similar to tournament builds, ply boards with a kickboard, supported with an external floor around the outside (inverted L) and then struts around the outside. The boards will be four foot high with four foot of netting on top. The plans are extremely solid because they have to meet The City's fire and safety regs. The insides of the boards will then be lined with Correx with the events branding and the outside will be scrimmed.

The idea is to host four - five exhibition matches throughout the day at published times such as 11:15 12:30 13:30 14:45, one potentially with some of the Elite riders (Team Sky probably) and then have a mixture of throwins and try it out sessions.

Just to emphasise, the court on Saturday is St. Paul's Church Yard. That's right, you can ride your polo bike around traffic free streets and then pull over to play polo right next to St. Paul's!
