I've just bought some aero wheels and here is my justification;
What difference will they make - about 30 seconds on a 10 mile tt, make my bike prettier and go wom wom wom.
Am I doing all the other things as right as I can to get faster - yes,
Can I afford them - yes.So I bought them then told my wife, she was surprisingly restrained in her reaction.

I road 6pt's 808 Zipps at the weekend.
I definitely looked faster, by quite some way.

I go faster on a bike that I think is faster.

Thanks for the info. Hadn't realised quite how incremental were those gains.
Dicki asked where I am in my racing career. To illustrate, this morning I pulled the covers up to try and drown the noise of my wife putting my empty beer bottles out for recycling. She then walked straight into the bedroom and suggested I should drink less. I have hopes this can be done incrementally.
Do you mostly ride TTs, road races, criteriums?

To be fair I raced triathlon before I raced road or TT so.. "whatevs I need no slevs".

Sorry but I doubt that 30 seconds.. I've done testing and I've seen the data collected by elite level competition cyclists ridding some of the best deep section wheels and its not been anywhere near that..
Now the wom wom..? Aero wheels are not supposed to go wom wom.... Pulsating sounds are not what you want... Try balancing them... and if you are into sounds.. Add a playing card to your spokes... -

balance the wheels ? huh ?
how does one do that ? -

This.
Sainsburys Ed, I agree with your logic. There was a picture of Chris Hoy in the Cool As Fuck thread. I was trying to get as aero and realised my gut was in the way of my thighs. Carbon wheels will have to wait until that's no longer a problem.

"The two lines also show the difference between a rider with a coefficient of drag-area (CdA) of 0.30m^2 and 0.27m^2 (a 10% reduction). That's roughly the sort of reduction in CdA you might expect going from standard low profile spoked road bike wheels to specialist aerodynamic wheelset, or riding on the tops to riding on the drops."

Wow, a cubic metre of air weighs 1.2kg?

we should all be 8 foot wide and 9 inches tall.

Your new wheels look superb and probably save you at least 30 seconds compared to your old wheels particularly when the tyres are taken into account too.

I was 50 seconds in the same course after buying new wheels, that's all the data I need.
If they didn't go wom wom wom id send them back...

So by increasing my power output. I'm reducing the benefit I get from my nice bike things!

I'll not be balancing carbon wheels for efficiency and speed at the expense of wom wom, thank you very much sir.

I've been mistaken for a car a couple of times (due to the rumble of the wheels).

Do the wheels still wom wom at 16 mph? if so I'm in.
