I am asuming you won't be carrying a bouldering mat? I would love to see someone trying to ride a bike with a piano sized pad on their back up a steep road to Stanage. I too have had to cut down my bike stable. My Tourer is my best bike though so not getting left anywhere.
Do you think you could get away with an internal hub gear?
