this Miche Primato Pista crankset is ISO or JIS?
thanksEveryone is now more or less ISO including high-end Nippon--- Sugino 75, Dura-Ace 7600. JIS taper is Asian downmarket.. the higher end road stuff is all spline based.. and track.. Campa and Sugino are still square.. and Dura Ace is still selling 7600 in Japan alongside the 7710s..
Miche? Odd company.. Their market is, I think, street rather than track.. And the BBs... the new ones have spindels sourced, I think, from a downmarket Asian jobber... -

^ Interesting comment.
The fact that NJS chainsets & BB's are all ISO is also a factor.
There's nothing wrong with JIS, all the old High end Japanese Road and MTB chainsets were JIS...I've always assumed that the shift from ISO to JIS was part of an outsourcing exercise (e.g. shifting production from in-house to a generic far eastern supplier)...
The original primato chainset is very nicely finished and clearly made with pride in the tradition of Miche as "poor-mans-campag", In terms of finish quality the "Advanced" just looks like any other mid range chainset (Stronglight, SRAM, Low end Sugino etc). -

I have an incredibly lightweight frame (under 2kg with bb) that was bought in a french market. Can anyone identify what it is?
It is Reynolds 531 Super Legere and the bb is by RGF. Any help greatly appreciated I am going to sell the frame but would like to be able to say what it is.
It is names Guy Lene record but as far as I can tell they didn't manufacture.
Thanks it's the red one!

Hi all - does anyone know a manufacturer whose frame numbers begin with a Y?
I have a pretty light, lugged steel frame with 126 spacing but vertical dropouts, and a little nubbin thing for a long frame pump on the headtube. inch headset, british threads etc etc
frame number is Y002C731 - can't find anything online
this has now been identified as a Peugeot Altus 531
Thanks,
Jack

Hey,
I was just wondering if anyone could help me identify what kind of fork crowns these are, and also if the frame has been brazed or welded.....
Some pics,
This my dads Bob Griffin frame that I have just got back from argos cycles and was curious about how it was made and what sort of parts he was using at the time. I know he was 753 certified so he definitely could braze, but I am pretty new to all this stuff so not 100% sure.
Thanks in advance.

The frame has been brazed, part lugged and part fillet brazed. The fork crown looks like a standard semi-sloping design. Could be Cinelli, but many made similar ones. Looks like a nice frame.
TIG welding was not common on steel frames of that vintage. It is a more recent development.

Hi yoav,
Thanks a lot for the info, a friend who knows bob and also has one of his frames said that the bb was probably cinelli but the crowns might possibly be reynolds. I thought as much re the brazing when I saw these pics too but wasn't sure if they were welded. Haven't had chance to see it in person yet.
Seems like Bob was a pretty good craftsman when it came to his later frames, I think this may be 1985,1986. I'm glad to know how the bike was made. The 653 tube is a mixed set right? Usually 753 rear triangle and 531 front end?
Once I have got a few more posts in I will start a current projects thread and you should be able to see the build.

Bob? The builder?
653 was a successor to 531 Professional which you correctly say was mixture of 531 main tubes and 753 rear stays. The old 531 became 531 Special Touring. I don't think such tubes were suitable for TIG welding hence their demise.
I have a 1997 vintage 653 Arthur Caygill.

Nice, again thanks for the info, will try and check out some Arthur Caygill frames. Looking forward to getting it back on the road.
