  • Need help please. Any idea what you call the screw type pin-like bolts you can use to connect a chain as oppose to a traditional master link, or better yet where might you be able to get one? Cheers!

    PS
It's for a D.I.D Racing Pro NJS chain if that makes a difference...

It's a screw master link. I'm guessing any other NJS one should fit an NJS DID, which would be handy because Izumi is the only one you're likely to find for sale separately. I'm also guessing it would be a lot simpler and quite possibly cheaper to get a proper chain

  • Erm, not planning on firebombing the guy, but I just want to send a letter to whoever is in charge. So preferably just name and title, then I'll send to head office.

Right then the company secretary is also on the Board as are his wife and son (judging by names and DOBs) because of this I would imagine that he is the owner, his name is Mr Philip Shields.

Are you just sending a friendly comment, or filing suit? Documents will be considered served if you send them to the registered address on file at Co.Ho.

    Ta, guys. Really useful.

    Thank you tester!

What do you mean by "proper" chain by the way? The D.I.D is for girl's bike and has served her well for 8 months/2900km, till she lost the so-called screw master link while cleaning the chain earlier today. I've been using the same type of chain myself and it runs smooth and virtually silent.

  • Those screw links always come loose. Bin them straight away of just buy a good chain for less than the price of a leg.

Just my usual piss taking, NJS chains carry heavy hipster tax and are no better than the £15.99 Wippermann. In fact, worse, because as any fule kno, the screw master links have a habit of losing their lock nuts and even their screws if you don't check them frequently. For daily drivers, the even cheaper 1Z1 is even better, being both quieter and more corrosion resistant.

Never had a problem with them... Standard click-on master links on the other hand has failed my gruesomely in the past.

Besides £35-40 for a chain that will easily last you 2-3 years isn't bad really, or is that just me?

  • it's you, not me

    So does the Wipperman.

Duly noted. I shall definitely bear that in mind when eventually I need a new chain. Don't give a shit about NJS myself... Merely asked for a decent chain and bike guy recommended the D.I.D.

  • you loomed large in his binocs...

£8 for a chain that lasts 2yrs is better.

Safest bet is to remove the quick link completely.

  • ...and simply connect/disconnect a pin using a chain-breaker???

  • Well, yes. You have to shorten a chain to install it anyway. How often do you remove a chain from a frame?

  • quick links are too much of a weak point for me to feel safe riding with them. Once I was swapping pedals on my bike before leaving for my commute when I spotted the quick link was only half attached, the other side had bent out of shape. I stopped using them and haven't had a problem since.

  • I actually feel quite comfortable riding with the quick links from my Wipperman chain.

  • In this particular case we talking about a chain that is already in use. It comes off once a week or so to be cleaned.

Personally I'd swap chains several times a week if not daily due to gear change... when I was still fit for fight that is :(

  • It comes off once a week or so to be cleaned.

  • You big troll.

  • What the fuck are you on about?

  • Don't you take your chain off to clean it, Ed?

  • Not every weeks.

  • Where in london is good for oggling fancy houses?

  • Bishops Avenue?

I received this book as a gift way back and have always wanted to ogle this house by Megan Williams on Hoxton Square, though the one time I went to look for it I had no luck.
