Sounds good. I think GBH do powdercoating too. Not sure of their prices tho.
Does anyone know anywhere local that does good enamel jobs?

not sure if they'll do clear. chicago are good and cheap, but dont expect the best of finishes... theyre more of an industrial coaters that occasionally do frames
pm me for an address of a real good powdercoater...

Am I right in thinking powdercoat isn't the way to go if I want multiple colours on a frame?
-
• #8
they can do, but fading between colours is a ball ache, what sold it for me was they were the only ones out of a dozen or so i called who were willing to shot blast the frame and zinc it before they powder coated it.

-
• #12
is powdercoat better than getting a body shop to spray up with car paint?

thanks ronnie, i knew this wouldnt be a quick and easy job. will the people in the workshop assess any rust realistically too? theres a patch that is worrying me
-
• #15
They'll be very thorough, it's the least they can do given how much they're gonna charge you. That pic appears to be a Carlton Corsair, you need to ask yourself is it worth it ? Mercian specialise in this too

I know this is an old thread, but for those thinking of doing gbh clearcoat ... the finish is shite.
Had my most especially pretty mtb done about a year back, it took about 8 weeks for rust in the shape of handprints to show up on the downtube. seems they don't take too much care moving it from the blaster to the coater, letting moisture from hands get onto the tubes. A £65 job should be considerably better than is provided. I also had the offer of doing BB facing with ... !?! a file. Avoid!
Edit: and as has just been read above, GBH use a £20 service inflated to £65 ... ripoff merchants.

Which is the best paint shop around Manc for a bike then, cheap is good?

do you want powder coating? there is already several threads on powder coaters around manchester, I'm sure theres a few mention of proper painters as well. I'll let you have an quick search.
If you go to the manchester section theres a dropdown list on one of the top bars to the right. it says 'search this forum'. if you put your curser on that you can type into the text box for key words you wish to search, such as 'painter', 'powdercoat'... ect. There are tons of other options to help your search if you click 'advanced options' that may help as well. This forum is a very powerful tool and information resource, if you're going to waste it you might as well not bother.
Good luck!

splendid choice..

Fairly new to this but I'm guessing based on this that powdercoating is best aye?

My right aye works much better than my left aye.
After a bit of ringing around I took a couple of frames to these guys in failsworth, Tony was really good, showed me and mrs Jackson around the factory, talked us through colours, samples etc, shot blasted the frames and forks, Mrs J had a rack and chain guard all for £35 per bike, pretty good! turn around in 24/48 hours. supprisingly good finish considering both bikes are from the mid 80's
will try and post some pics up when they are built up.
details here
( i dont work for them before you ask, just impressed with the service!)
