There's nothing wrong with JIS, all the old High end Japanese Road and MTB chainsets were JIS...
I've always assumed that the shift from ISO to JIS was part of an outsourcing exercise (e.g. shifting production from in-house to a generic far eastern supplier)...
The original primato chainset is very nicely finished and clearly made with pride in the tradition of Miche as "poor-mans-campag", In terms of finish quality the "Advanced" just looks like any other mid range chainset (Stronglight, SRAM, Low end Sugino etc).
