• So, with a new spirit of being a better cyclist, I stopped at a yellow light at Ludgate Circus on Friday, as it was about to go red. This was followed by a small jolt, at which point I looked behind me and saw, instead of an overeager cycle as I expected, a white van with a fairly apologetic driver. Everything seemed fine, so after a quick check I biked off, only to hear a loudish bang about 200 yards down the road.
Also, I'd forgotten my wallet, oyster and wrench. Fortunately, I had an inner tube, and the staff at Evans across the road were extremely helpful re: lending me tools.

    Lessons learned:

    • don't forget your wallet
    • look behind before stopping at yellow/crosswalks
    • don't let cars drive off without getting details

No major damage done, but getting tagged from behind is profoundly unsettling, especially when it comes from nominally being more careful..
