  • do you actually crash your bike into things as often as it seems Fixedstar?

  • He's preparing to make his track debut...

  • That is why you shouldn't DAWS on the track.

  • Good shout!

    that's a #ubinEEId

He broke his hand trying to adjust his front brake while riding drunk, right?

  • Brake are death.

  • Maybe he decided to try a tyre grab to see what happens?

  • Eel rides a bike?!

  • Just look at the destruction left in his wake.

I remember when Pigfarmer demonstrated to some young lasses outside a pub 'how to stop a fixie'. Simply ride along, leen forward, grab front wheel as hard as you can. He stopped quickely enough, was more a barrel roll down the street rather than a whip skid though.

  • I think we could fill a whole new forum with stories about Pigfarmer and his "activities".

  • Had a heartbreakingly nightmarish moment with my NJS Peloton going into work this morning. Just coming down from Kings Cross towards Chancery Lance, pulled off from a junction and heard a massive crack. Initially thought this was (somehow...) my saddle coming loose from the seatpost. Got to nearest bike shop to borrow some tools, before realising the saddle was absolutely fine. Further inspection revealed a fucking ginormous crack the ENTIRE way round the bottom of the seat tube...

I'm so sad about this. Just did the DD on this over the weekend completely without problems. It's just...happened. No idea how. Every bike-y person I've shown this to is baffled. So now having to swap all parts over onto an old Fuji frame, and think about what - if anything - I can do with the Peloton. The friendly and helpful folk at Full City Cycles suggested Argos. Could be an option. But I'm slightly concerned about whether a crack of this nature - basically a complete dissection of the tube - means even a good fix won't do the job. Got no idea really; never had a problem like this before.

Thoughts / suggestions of what I can do with the frame (very) welcome.

I'm off to weep and drink.

  • It's steel, so in theory someone like Ryan at Oak Cycles will be able to heat and separate the lugs and put in a new tube.

But in reality the cost will likely exceed that of a new frame.

I would recommend going to Ryan at Oak and basically getting a new frame made and then taking everything off the existing frame and moving it all over.

By having a frame made, you can closely replicate the existing one (if you wanted) and ensure that you don't encounter compatibility issues with the parts you move over.

You wouldn't even need the forks made again... just the frame. Could well be a reasonably priced and swift exercise.

Tough luck man. Argos could replace the entire seat tube, but that might cost more than the frame is worth when you factor in a paint job afterwards. (as VB says)*

  • Didn't Ryan quote around £120-130 for a tube replacement?

Either he or Super Ted will be able to sort it, I think it's definitely worth it! Not like it's some shitty old peugeot conversion.

Who needs a paint job? Can of sparkle clear coat and would be some lovely rat.

  • Mild 'oh shit' moment this afternoon, on my way home decided I'd take the canal, hit a bit of wet ground and the front wheel just slipped from under me, it was also there first time I'd with a rack albeit an empty one.

Managed to unclip in time and put my foot down.

  • ooh rack action. what on?

  • Brooklyn, check instagram.

Either repair it, suck up the cost and try and bask in the warm glow of keeping a loved frame on the road, or do the above and mount your broken frame on the wall as a reminder of fun times.

    YES SON!
    doin it big!

  • Had a mild arse clenching moment this morning. Out the saddle surrounded by traffic an I get that "clunk" when the chain almost jumps off. Looks like my cranks aren't centred on the square taper as the chainring has already been pushed as far as it can to reduce the tight spot. Meh.
