Because what you see is HTML, which when copied is stored differently in your computers memory, then when you paste into a text box it prints the text formatted, which the forum only sees as plain text.
Best way to do it is to select quote and remove the [quote.. ] bit at the beginning and the [/quote ] bit at the end.
