If it's whacking your gooch like Bruce Lee on heat, just make sure your rear tyre is seated properly, I've a fucking shitballz continental on my Mtb and the fucker won't seat correctly, I said fuck it and rode anyway, 40 miles later and my gooch was like mincemeat.

Hurrah! Has yours arrived now?
Hullo MM, yeh it arrived a week ago, sorry for late reply been away with work - well chuffed with it!
For those wanting a nice pub stop pre-SibbleH, I rode out to Dunmow and back in last Saturday's heat sweating like a pig and stopped for rehydrating ale at the Axe and Compasses which is on the B184 after Leaden Roding & about 4 miles before entering Dunmow. The nice landlady said she'll be staying open late with a special stack of banana's and Mars Bars to snack on as well as fine ales and proper scrumpy ciders.

Greetings and love to each and every one,
Well it's now one day to go until the ride - hooray.
I've now got my bike ready - new tyres, chain and sprocket fitted, just put on the lights and water bottle cages tonight and then we're sorted.
Just got to get my head around riding 130 miles tomorrow night....
I hope you all have the most magical time. I'll see you out of the roads, please hail me up as you whizz past me.
Peace, love and guidance,
Tim -

Why is everybody talking about their serious preparations for this ride, pls?
I haven't bothered with any preparations other than buying a bag of jelly snakes, is there something I should know about this ride?
-
• #834
I've just bought some Percy Pigs.
-
• #835
Also I've never used chamois cream and my undercarriage hasn't fallen off yet.
-
• #836
^^ I got the fizzy ones.
-
• #837
My preparation so far has included:
(a) collecting gel wrappers from the hedgerows of Box Hill so I can drop them in people's driveways in Suffolk;
(b) practising loud arguments with my friends about garmin route points at street corners at 3am;
(c) wondering whether there are any castles near dunwich that I haven't visited yet.

Ha BEDWETTER award still intact then? saves you getting to the first pub before faking a mechanical and peeling off for home because you did not have permission to be out all night.
it's quite hard to fake a snapped spoke... even if I did it myself I still had to limp 10-15 miles to nearest station with a train going back to London :P

Rosie you do realise you're a woman, though? And a mental.
I don't use chamois, just a bit of sudacreme. Most parents of small kids have this stuff around.
Last year I wore no padding. It hurt a bit. Hard to stand up on fixed too.
This year I'm doing the ride in two parts with 15 hours gap in between, so I'm hoping the bum/gooch thing won't be so much of an issue. Still not wearing padding. I hate it when off the bike.

I rarely lube up but I stupidly commuted in some old cheap bibs this week and I've got a bloody saddle sore. Think I'll grease up nice and thick.
Must remember to buy a pack of double deckers for fuel.

Preparation is everything.
Jelly Babies a quid a bag in Saino's at the mo.
Considering giving the sausage and beans in a theros a swing this year, gonna be warm all night so might just do a couple of ham and brie ciabatta rolls instead.

Preparation is everything, I have been carbo loading for months.
I reckon a ham baguette will get a bit whiffy in this heat and since my thermos keeps hot thngs hot and cold things cold I will probably go for the sausage and beans option with a couple of scoops of ben and jerry's for after.

That's why chamois cream is scented.

Protein Shake for halfway. A couple of energy bars for whilst riding. A nutella, peanut butter and banana sandwich - for the last 3/4 way. Then a Sainsburys pasta pot in reserve in case I bong - before halfway.

Just skin up, less weight to carry.
-
• #849
Obviously I meant 'Bonk' - my bong won't fit in my pannier.
-
• #850
ditch the toolkit, take the bong
If it's bumping your gooch it might be too high, it's a fine art. Mine's more of a gentle rub, I'm going to have to mess with it today or stick a Rolls back on. I do love my Arione though.
