Hello there fine peoples. I had my first Polo bike stolen off of the Oxford Street area yesterday. Slim chances and all, but gotta give it a shot.

It's the exact bike as in the picture but with some different parts.

It's a Silver charge plug with the main body taped up in electrical tape. This is what is NOT similar to the picture.

Saddle and seatpost will be a Bontrager on unknown Carbon seatpost.
Pedals will be black with black horizontal straps.
Front wheel will be a black box section rim Araya on a shimano hub.
The bars will be some tiny unknown things on a silver stem with some black Tektro brakes on it

All other parts are: Charge plug in medium.
    Unknown cranks (LONG)
Black Rigida rear rim on a Miche hub.
    Fuji forks

I love this thing. If anyone can spot it, please kidney punch or just holla holla. It's a simple bike with shitty miss match parts, but I love it very much.

  • Getting fed up with this thread, not to mention the "ways not to lock your bike" thread... While only a fraction of people having had their bike stolen will bother to post here, I still find the number of stolen bikes really upsetting. And yes, of course you should take reasonable precautions, but between us, it is almost like we accept, that if you didn't cement your bike to the floor, really you were asking for it.

Needless to say I would never encourage or condole violence in any shape or form, but sometimes I secretly fantasise about catching a bike thief in act and hurting them in ways so horrible that even nazi KZ camp officers would turn their head in disgust.

  • I'm not sure it is the same as saying you asked for it to try to work out the best possible ways to reduce theft. While the stats of bikes that do go missing are upsetting, we can't know the number not stolen through the use of better locks or more intelligent locking methods.

I certainly was more blase before coming "on here", and wouldn't be surprised if it's saved me a theft of at least wheel if not more...

  • True, very true... Only carrying 180kg of chains and armour defies the object of riding a bike in the first place; in my world anyway.

    #killbikethieveswithfire

  • Obviously the point of riding a bike is to convey it to another location where you can leave it, testing your latest armoured shackle lock and ingenious methods.

  • i had two bikes stolen on the weekend, they got in to the shared hallway where about 8 bikes are and only stole mine, so heartbroken.

they were a neon yellow champion mondial AB frame in 653 tubing, its so distinctive never seen another one in london in this colour. it has a tab on the bottom obn the top tube for your race number, which is rare as well as being a cool little detail which gazelle are great at.

it has bullhorns with black bar tape a black rolls seat goldtec hub with mavic open pros.

the other was a lemond zurich with dura ace groupset, blue and silver. white saddle.

if you see it on gumtree or ebay, would apreciate a heads up.

    thanks

    will

  • it looked like this, apart from it had the number tag and the rear brake cable went inside the top tube.

  • I'll pay £100 to anyone who brings the bike back / whose actions lead to finding the bike and recovering it.

Specs are here please link to it if and where you can, also there is a poster for downloading if you have the space to display it or time to distribute it :)

I'd really like to get this bike back. It is hugely important to its owner(s), a sweet girl and a sweet dog, and I hate to see them miserable.

Thanks for any help, in advance.

Good luck to everyone else looking for their bikes.

  • Ah, that sucks. I think I have seen you on that gazelle at least once - will definitely notice the bike if I see it again.

  • My Champion Mondial was stolen from my bike shed last night in E8, just by Broadway Market.

It now has Orys and a black mudguard, no bottle cadge and no Carridice. Wheels ar Open Pro's to Formula hubs, Condor Seatpost, Miche cranks, 3TTT Record stem, Tektro brake.

I'm at my sister's wedding this weekend but if anyone is down Brick Lane, Netil Market or the top of Broadway Market this weekend please have a look. It's tagged - has a chip in the seattube so if there are coppers around you could ask them to scan it and it'll come up as stolen.

    Thanks, D.

  • Spoke to a guy I know who use to steal bikes. He said they would sit on/stash it for a while either in a lockup/yard/house. Then try and sell it off down Brick Lane or Columbia Road. Weeks or even months later when the owners give up hope.

Maybe what needs to be done is a regular take it back initiative. Where we do regular Brick Lane Market rides once a week.

Take pics and post our findings/report back. I am down after the 2nd week of August.

  • Its so crappy because the law doesn't punish them enough when caught.

The guy I know was never caught. But he's on the straight and narrow now.

  • I know these sort of ideas have been mooted umpteen times, but just riding down and taking photos etc could surely help? In a big enough group noone will try to strong arm you, it's legal, and it would save people who need to work/live to far away the trip to see if their bikes are there. And provide evidence for any future police shiznit..

  • has anyone seen this bike? I think we all have to keep it in mind as its likely going to surface much later - assuming the theif figures out how rare it is..

I wonder if the owner has checked with Convoy - they probably have a list of who's purchased their bikes and it might be worth asking them to make their customers aware its missing.

  • Coolio even better anyone has a spy video camera and we can roll through their in detail each week and take turns filming the bastards, capturing conversation etc. That way if we do find a bike the videos can be used as even stronger evidence as they capture the thief trying to sell on stolen goods.

So it will expose his true nature. Cause I heard when caught they say its not mine, or what bike? I don't have a bike I was just standing near it looking after it. And then it becomes harder to prove they were dealing with stolen goods/property.

  • let's take back our streets and get these guys.

  • As far as I know it hasn't been seen after the two sightings the same week it was stolen.

I have a feeling, too, that it's gone under ground until the heat comes off, and will surface later.

    Thanks... :)

Genesis Day One (2009 - old style), black, 52cm frame, fixed setup, "Pedalling for the Planet" sticker. Stolen from inside a (supposedly) locked space this morning next to London Fields. I was in the same space and even saw it go, gave chase but didn't see which way they went. Reported to the police - who came round within the hour (I was quite surprised). Turns out they are more interested in surveilling the local black youth (who are using bikes for their trade, as well as nicking some - London Fields area is pretty good for all kinds of business these days I guess). Depressing all round.

Anyway, its the best bike I ever had and I'm really gutted. I was on the way to LFC to get a new inner tube for doing the Dynamo tonight. Pah!

In the unlikely event anyone sees it, I'd be grateful for a PM.Thanks :)

  • hello all....

its sad that my first post here has to be for my bike that just got stolen today ... !!!

BLUE 'CHARGE PLUG' with modded Tektro TL720 TT Brake Levers.
Stock brown seat and brown faux leather handle bar tape.
    Tyres were changed to Gators.
The bike was parked and locked at the Shoreditch Overground station bike shelter next to the boxpark at around 1530.
so between 1530 & 1730 today , Saturday 20th July it was stolen..!!

Put the word out....im sad... :-(

  • ooh...just remembered that the right pedal has some damage...a bit of the pedal has broken off.

  • What was it locked with?

  • a 'specialized' cable lock.

  • Hi guys,

My bike was stolen last night outside the LBK shop in Hackney.
It's a 2008 women's LeMond Etape in bright blue with black decals.
Black crabon forks with white LeMond decal.
Sora groupset, but external BB with Tiagra cranks and SPD pedals.
The front wheel is a Tiagra hub with Mavic Open Sport, the rear is a 105 with Mavic Open Pros, built myself :(
White bar tape, red Specialized bottle cage.
    A Brixton Cycles sticker.

I'd be ever so grateful if you could keep an eye out - this bike changed my life 5 years ago, I'm sure you can relate! Thank you so much.
