THIS!! I used to get completely stumped when ending up having to wave people to cross, never understood why, till one day as I stopped, another cyclist smashed into my back, promptly followed by another, I had a railing next to me so managed to hold on and keep upright while the two of them lay in a crumpled heap on the floor. One got up and started letting spit fly. I just cracked up and understood why the pedestrian didn't cross straight away.
