Couldn't have picked a better stage for a french win

Riblon has lovely eyelashes.

Will Froome get a time penalty then? Pretty shameless rule breaking.
-
• #4106
From what I'd read, rule-breaking tends to incur fines rather than time penalties - see the inrng article about Chava being penalised for a 'sticky bottle'...

If it is I assume it'll be inconsequential. 20sec or so.

"Chris Froome attacked early on but he ran out of energy halfway up the second ascent of Alpe d'Huez and I think he has been suffering at the end of this climb. He sent Richie Porte back to the car to get an energy bar because it is illegal to get food from your team car in the closing kilometres and he knew he could be docked some time if he did it himself."

It will be a fine. And it will be Porte as he went back to get the food to hand to Froome.
Even so, most of you know that eating at that point would have been too late anyway.

Smart move.

Rules are there to be played with. Am sure footballers will do rough tackles to take out star players on other teams knowing the likely penalty. One player taking a hit for the team as a whole seems worth it.

Sounds more like a professional foul. Dicks.
-
• #4113
if froome wins the tour, then richie porte deserves a knighthood, just saying
-
• #4114
All slightly Irrelevant. It's not like Froome was going to lose 5+ min in the last 3k. Gel or no gel.
-
• #4115
You say that but Riblon took about 1min 30 out of Tejay so it could have been significant

This is sport. HTFU You know the rules and play your cards knowing them. It's called being smart and playing as a team.

Richie port holding it together for froome there.

How much time Ullrich lose to Pantani when he bonked at Les Deux Alpes in 1998?

Amazing stage.
If theres one thing I'd have to say about Quintana though, it's that he doesn't need to be working with Froome on these climbs. To a certain extent on Ventoux, but especially today when Froome was suffering and waiting for Porte to come back up, he should have let Froome suffer and then attacked him at full power, instead of taking a turn. Sure it's valiant riding, but with Froome so far ahead he should be taking every possible second when he suffers.
Good to see purito taking more time today, hope he can get into third with Quintana in second.

did he get fined 20 secs?
-
• #4121
Yep. Looks like it.

• #4122
Started the day 4m34s in front of Bertie, finished today's stage 57s ahead, so it should be a 5m31s lead, but is shown as only 5m11s in the standings.

but why him? Shouldn't it be Porte?
-
• #4124
Should have been more, given what was at stake. Second time cheating, after illegal feed on Ventoux as well.
but why him? Shouldn't it be Porte?
Because the race referee isn't a fool?

Eating aint cheating.
Ha, reports of a Movistar rider riding through dutch corner with a beer.
