I've still got a pair of Chrome shorts that are pushing 7 years. They no longer resemble whatever colour they used to be, and they're a few inches too small for me nowadays (uncomfortable to wear)... but... fundamentally they are still fine.
I hope things last 4-5 years as a rule, beyond that is a dream, but 2-3 years is poor value for money.
