Solid effort, thank you.

Good work.
It's a shame that the STATS 19 data doesn't show the cyclists killed as they pushed their bike over a junction too tricky to cycle.
I spotted a couple of minor glitches - shows that STATS 19 doesn't always get it right. I'll email details. -

So sad looking at that map.

Indeed good (if terribly depressing) stuff!

Hi guys, thanks for the comments. If anyone would like any specific data just let me know. Comments for improvements or where to go with the project next are welcome.

it would be great to see maps linking cyclist deaths to the type of vehicle involved, better still if you could categorise by type of (other) vehicle involved so we could see how many pedestrians, cyclists or motorcyclists were killed by a particular size lorry in London, or the UK.

I'm fairly sure I treated a cyclist who was doored and died in Parkstone, Poole around 1997. I can't see anything on the map which relates to such an incident. Maybe a dooring does not count...

For those who have asked I have added a post with data related to fatalities by vehicle type and fatalities by year
http://icycleliverpool.co.uk/2013/05/29/fatalities-by-year-and-vehicle-type/
Charlie - I can't do it by vulnerable user mode as the dataset only includes cyclists, this is due to a decision I made at the beginning to make it manageable, and concentrate on cyclists. The STATS19 tables have hundreds of thousands of rows I don't think my laptop would have coped with it.

Sorry to hear that, crap way to find out too. It seems like he was quite a keen cyclist.

He was a great guy.
Proper clever, bright and thoughtful, captain of all the sports teams, head boy kind of a lad. -

He was a great guy.
James' crash was reported here https://www.lfgss.com/thread99686.html the second cyclist to be killed in this part of the New Forest in less than a year.

In case it's of any use during this week's vigorous campaigning, here is the data for all cyclist deaths since Boris took office

And an image map.

No problem, I just hope it's a useful stick with which to beat the blonde one! I'm not a Londoner, I've no axe to grind with Boris, but he needs to man up and deal with the fecking problem.
I've taken all the STATS19 data from 1985 upto 2011 and cleaned it up and then added on all deaths so far in 2012 and 2013 to create a map of all cyclist fatalities, over 5,000 deaths in 28 years.
http://icycleliverpool.co.uk/2013/03/31/cyclist-fatalities/
Unlike previous attempts at similar maps, this one also includes where possible, names, links to news articles and photographs, I am also adding sentencing data for convicted drivers
http://icycleliverpool.co.uk/2013/05/23/sentencing-for-causing-death-of-a-cyclist/
Click on any of the pins to see more info. If anyone can provide more information about a fatality please let me know.
Thanks.
