Cheers. Your Oak thread was inspirational, btw.
A step-through because she wanted one, and I guess there are some merits - riding with a child seat for one.

Just rebuilt the run about. Nice sparkly metallic green from Armortex, and 7 speed 'stick shift'. Going for a sort 70s custom car vibe....
Although Armortex is a lot more expensive than they used to be, their quality seems to have really gone up.
Dog still with original finish and components.

I think a step through is great for the given application; town bikes meant to carry loads are much easier to deal with in this format, as long as the frame is strong enough to handle the stresses. Really smart looking project.

^ Well put and thanks, I appreciate it. The durability was a concern for me, but I'm not too worried really, loads should be moderate.

Problem, i was fitting a brake on the Vivalo so i can do some club/charity rides, but it rubs on the headset slightly, i guess just filing the bolt down is my only option? i'll try higher it and dropping the pads down, but not sure it will be enough
ill put some pvc tape over those clamps...

Glad you havent drilled it.
I still haz dibs -

I wouldn't dare! i will eventually have something else with all things practical and clean up the Vivalo.

Is there enough clearance to drop the brake and raise the pads?

That or a couple of washers between the bridge and the clamps.

You could also use the bike on the track as was intended when it was built or HTFU and ride braklz. Those clamp on brakes are useless anyway and put unnecessary pressure on the forks.

^^ Recommending NoBrakes™ for a club ride is bullshit.

• #80015
I would see it as recommending a more suitable bike for a club ride.

He owns it and it (almost) works.
Suggesting he gives up isn't helpful. Most forumengers spend too much time/money buying new bikes and bits anyway. Sort it and ride it FTW.

I had the same issue, sorted with some washers. Also I used a bit of inner tube under the clamps, works well.

It's a temporary solution to a temporary problem, i can ride just fine brakeless, all 3 bikes i own are brakeless, but when your riding with roadies with a club i think its a pretty idea to stick one on there, to avoid skids and so on.

If i drop it low enough for that it rubs on the top of the tyre

Surely one of your 3 brakeless steeds would be drilled for a brake and therefore more suitable for putting a brake on for a club ride?

@ tilover .. Really late to the party! But fantastic job you've done to that Pinarello

Well, i do, it's a bit of a dilemma though, i got a Brother Steel track which would do the job quite well actually, but its a great commuter to, real solid and ideal bike to nip around town on, but id also have to change half the parts on it to, the Vivalo is lighter and probably stiffer, already have lighter wheels, spd's, bottle cage etc, so i can just stick a front brake on that and its safe to ride along with some roadies. You get me?
But when i got the money id like to get a nice road bike or a maybe like a Dolan pre-cursa set up as a fixed road bike
(bored rambling while waiting for bacon to cook)
That look great, why the step-thru?
