Never heard of it.

Is it new?

Is that the one where Harrison Ford plays the archaeologist?

Nope. Not at all.
It's just like Mapmyride / Endomondo / Ride with GPS / whatever app you use to boast about how far you've cycled, but it has public leaderboards for 'segments' - little chunks of a route (climbs/sprints/etc.) - that you are automatically logged against so you can see how you rank against both the general public and also anyone you 'follow' on these sections.
It's a laugh - give it a look/try.

As far as I can figure it can only be magic...
It's pretty smart, actually.
Basically just makes all rides public (unless you select to be private) and then when you're finished it uploads your data and ranks you against the segments you've ridden on any given ride. It also then gives you PBs for the segments you've ridden more than once and you can get King/Queen of the Mountain if you're the fastest at a given segment.
You can also make your own segments by selecting a chunk from a past route and marking it off. It then becomes public and anyone can compete.
Round these parts most segments are fairly short (junction/traffic light to junction/traffic light sprints and climbs) until you get out of the city, then it's the roadies' territory...
Only thing that's slightly annoying is that your Premium Rush-style fixeh skidder traffic racing sprints are mostly in vain as the app won't show leaderboards for sections they consider to be 'dangerous'... :(

FWIW
For your purpose of following each others activities on there, you can set up a Club (that you all join), lets say, LFGSS - Cambs, and filter segments by group members.

^ I admit that this can be done by simply following each other :-)

Hello to all Cambridge fixed gear riders, This is my first time posting.
Been using Strava for personal rides for a while
Love the idea of a fixed gear club on there as so many segments are dominated by the lycra freeks with gears (sorry if u are one). Will be nice to measure myself against fellow fixed gear riders.
See you on the road. -

I haz a KOM and half a dozen top tens on 48x16.
I'm also roughly DFL on most of the uphill and downhill segments.
Just ride the flat stuff.

Oh man, just saw this! Was totally itching to set this up in Cambridge - so much more interesting to see how you fare against other fixed riders. Now I've moved to France for a couple months. What a tit. Hold the QOM title for me until I get back?
Anyone use it?
Might be fun/interesting/useful to have a list of everyone else who is so we can all follow each other and compete to find out who's the fastest person at riding over Mill Road bridge (I am). Disclaimer: There are other segments you can enjoy, they're just not on my commute. In the longer term, might be a bit of fun for the alleycats too - find out who takes the shortest route/is the fastest/'etc'.
Anyway, I'm here, should anyone care: http://app.strava.com/athletes/2125880
