  • Anyone else have the desire to attempt to cycle round the world on a fixed gear bike? I fancy a pop at the world record. It's officially considered to be 18,000 miles within 160 days on a geared bike. Don;t know if it's ever been done fixed. I'm travelling 4000km through India in an auto rickshaw next april, followed by about 6000km on a motor bike im hoping to buy in nepal down to indonesia. So, I like to try and do crazy shit, and cycling round the world on a fixie is definitely crazy. Basically trying to gauge if anyone fancies a crack at it with me? Probably leave late 2014/early 2015. Any thoughts/advice?

  • I saw the programme that was made about the scottish chap that is the current round the world record holder and it looked intense. He did a minimum of 100 miles a day for 3 months with only a few days, and they were taken up flying to different continents.
He had his bike held for ransom by the Pakistani police who were supposed to be escorting him through Waziristan, got taken out by an old lady in America who's son turned out to work in a bike shop, and almost lost his mind in the Australian outback after not seeing anyone or speaking for weeks.
Having said that it did looking absolutely amazing.
    Good luck.

Did he do it fixed do you know?

  • No geared.
If you're the first to do it fixed then you wouldn't have to worry about how long it takes because you'd automatically be the record holder.
    Do it.

  • its been done on a penny farthing, thats fixed, dont know if that counts
