I think of the day usually indicates some level of specialness beyond the circadian reference.

We've been through all that before - taken today? published today? What does it matter?

I guess the idea of being of the day was to provide a fig leaf for people to post their own pics if they genuinely thought they were of interest to a wider audience, but obviously generally all good/interesting things are welcome

I post pictures of the foxes that live in my garden in the Post Your Pets thread, They are not my pets but it is my thread. It's a minefield. The argument, that is, not the garden.

Nerged for posting photos of wild animals in the pets thread.

I've seen this thread as the place for news photos, photos by established photographers, photos of the Cary Grants of this world, etc, rather than our own stuff.

It hasn't become a "photo critique" thread as digi / non-digi has, so I don't know what you get out of putting your photo here, more than being in good company?

That said, I don't mind if people do, as long as the quality is kept high

It's by far one of the best threads on this side of the forum and going off-piste is the major strengths of LFGSS.
