Used to have one, great for keeping the bicycle dry, not so great for moisture.
ed, moisture is water just as a FYI.

maybe he is talking about condensation inside from damp bikes? or the ground?
You could knock something up with wood and corrugated plastic for a similar price.

Locking your bike to any of the stands outside the Sun is stupid, given that one of them has been easily taken wpart and all are built the same shoddy way. But this is moronic:
Particularly since simply placing the lock a couple of inches lower, under the bar that anchors the stand to the wall, would reduce the stupidity level to "unwise".

By the looks of it, it wouldn't take too much effort to pull the bar from the wall either.

Yeah totally, a decent couple of kicks and tugs and it looks like it would come off the wall quite easily.

Still doesn't mean it's not water though.

Minus front wheel and about a metre away from the rack with no lock. I have no idea how or why this hadn't been stolen. I was stood nearby for a good 10 minutes, no owner in sight.

I thought this was ways not to lock your bike? This bike isn't locked.....

Wins the thread then.

How has only the front wheel been stolen?

this is at my workplace. although during the day it has a security guard hanging around, during the night there is NO CCTV whatsoever and as it is in an alleyway there are very few passing pedestrians (often a lot of back wheels vanish during the night).

In their defence; those locking stands are shit - the only way to lock properly on them is to park sideways & block the whole lot with one bike (but that's still locking to a skinny bit of metal). Locking to the railing post behind would have been better but I assume the facilities manager would kick off.
Might be worth all requesting better stands?

I assumed the owner had taken the front wheel with him/her, assuming this would be a disincentive to theft. I guess it would at least slow down a casual thief.

I saw this the other day, thought it particularly amusing as the d-lock was just resting against the stand. think the piece of green string or whatever it was could have been pulled apart, no trouble.

out of shot there are plentiful normal bike stands, just for some reason there are a few of those shit ones.

Saw this a couple of times finally snapped it up. I am assured by locals that the bloke/sheila works in the shop right next to the rack but still made me cringe.

Those racks invite dumbness.

Any would-be thief would be foiled by the banana skin.
