LOL Cav just nicked someone's tape recorder

"Kittel's man Veelers sensed Cavendish coming, veered slightly to right to hinder him, Cavendish hit him with left shoulder, causing crash."
-
• #1854
Apparently he's not best pleased being asked about the crash
-
• #1855
wish he'd kept talking

Maybe he thought Veelers was a Lamborghini?
-
• #1857
ha. Sagan looking like he's just staggered out of a nightclub...

Looking back on eurosport player at the crash first time round is interesting, much less marked than the aerial view. It looks much more like Veelers drifts across than Cav going for the barge.
-
• #1859
veelers drifts about 30cm, Cav had swung out to get round him.
I can understand that it's all happening v.fast and he might have anticipated contact that didn't come but Cav looked like he had the time and space to take evasive action if he'd wanted to but instead leans into him and makes it look very much like a 'fuck you' manouvre that could have been avoided.

given the end result (another cyclist going down heavy) that it looks a bit dodgy (don't lean!) I can envisage Cav getting a very serious penalty for this.
-
• #1861
Then he veers
-
• #1862
Then Cav gives him a little bit of a speed boost.
-
• #1863
tough call. will be interested to see how they call this one.

The other guy was taller than Cav so Cav has every right to try and knock him off his bike. All's fair in love and cycling.
-
• #1866
I agree.

• #1867
it's not like there wasn't any room to avoid Veelers. maybe Cav'll be a gent and apologise. front replay really shows his agressiveness.
guess he was pissed off at losing Steegmans' wheel in the corner

Not on your nellie
Mark Cavendish @MarkCavendish 1h
Just seen the sprint. I believe I didn't move line. I'm actually coming past Veelers & we touch elbows when he moves. Anyway, hope he's ok. -

now Cav says on my nellie, sorry, I mean telly, the last bit of road for the sprint should have been straight...
what has that got to do with anything?
-
• #1871
ever been in a sprint? it's not that easy to knock someone off his bike like that. Veelers is not a small guy either.
On the other hand, hitting someone's elbow/forearm from behind hard is actually a pretty easy way to knock someone off if they're not braced for it.
Don't think size has anything to do with balance and control really. -
• #1872
'touch elbows' lol
your shoulder that was braced for impact touched his elbow when you swerved into him and could have easily held your line and gone around...
Wouldn't be as annoying if he didn't squeal so much about other riders' behaviour.
-
• #1873
The sensible thing to do if you're about to collide with another rider in a sprint is to lean in, despite what Ed would have you believe. Cavendish does that just as Veelers straightens up, and this knocks Veelers down. Racing incident, result stands.
-
• #1874
Can all sprint experts on twitter go & try flicking their bike right at 65kph without leaning your body left to balance & come back to me.

Out of interest, would you rather be knocked off your bike with c. 500m to go after a days racing, or with c 100km to go with 3 mountains to climb, a'la Peter Kennaugh?
