  • Hello everyone.

    I am considering selling my 'Nago;

Newly restored, and not yet ridden more than 10 miles. I'm not sure if I can bring myself to sully it, and thus am seeing if there is interest among you guys for it.

Its a '76 super with columbus SL and some nice lug thinning.

The frame has been lovingly restored in as close to factory yellow from a 76 brochure as is possible. Period correct decal set applied under clearcoat.

All the components are Nuovo Record and all are from 1976, with the exception of the pedals which are a bit earlier.

All the campagnolo components are in very good condition, with very few cosmetic blemishes.

mid 70's "oval logo" cinelli stem and cinelli champion del mondo bars.

NOS isca period correct saddle, and nos genuine campag lever hoods.

The wheels are FIR clinchers, anodized in black, and have been rebuilt with DB spokes and not ridden since.

Hubs and BB (all campag) have been repacked with new bearings and fresh grease.

I will also include some new toe clips and yellow leather straps.

Looking for 1.2 bags of sand.

    What are your thoughts...

  • P.S. the ridiculously long cable housings have been sorted since this pic.

  • £1,200?

    Good luck with that...

  • Open to negotiation...

  • at that price range it should have at least a little pantographed Colnago jewelry, or race team provenance if listed on ebay
prices here tend to be lower
your efforts are to be commended, a nice bike

  • Hmmm... For an old steel frame. Don't care how collectible. That's just madness.

  • great bike!
price is a little optimistic, i agree.
maybe take a bit of sand out of that bag and you'll have more chances to sell it!
also it will keep the trolls in their caves....

  • thoughts?:

only a dobbins level resto garage queen or,

    a race bike with pedigree

    will fetch your ludicrous estimate.

halve it for a non-provenanced diy job

and bags of sand, pweease, not even my car dealer cousins use that mockneyism.

  • from trollovia...
    first impressions etc
    minus points:
    bar tape, please wrap correctly
    rear caliper, screw in adjuster
front caliper, unscrew adjuster a tad
cranks, find some bolt covers at that price
get ride of lame saddle pouch
don't mix yellows ( creme frame, yellow cables )

    good points, loverly nag!!

  • Nice bike but even with Colnago tax i'd say the price was heavy, you're into Panto'd Super Record territory at £1200.

  • To get that price, you'll want to speak to the sand man.

  • Thanks for the feedback (trolls and all)

Some minor points - the caliper adjusters were normalized with the housing adjustment fix, so are in line now. crank dust caps are supposedly still en route, but I may consider getting some more (hard to get correct period)
Agree the saddle bag is highly un-cool. and bar tape issue does need to be resolved, but involves removing the levers.

As to the price: Admittedly I went in pretty high, out of a mix of greed and pride, and also to test the water before diving in.

In my defense someone paid close for this which isn't as nice.

As I say I am willing to negotiate on price, so if any of you most excellent gentlemen are interested, I would like to hear from you. (although rive gauche - I think half is a bit extreme. It is a very nice and well considered job which has been done here...)

For the Mockney however, I have no excuse.

thing is, unless it was a car crash, an original condition super could go to 7/800. you've not elevated it to 1200 just by refinishing it non-period correct.

some perfect examples here > http://www.velociao.com/category/bikes-and-frames/colnago/page/2/

  • and bags of sand, pweease, not even my car dealer cousins use that mockneyism.

    gercha :)

  • £350

downtube shifters (hate 'em) and lack of any rack/guard eyelets reduces the bike to a sunny-day ponce transporter essentially. if i lived in east london and went to all those canal-side bistros to hang out with my yuppie friends then i'd definitely pay more for it because that bike is PERFECT for showing off.
i'd say that most people on here aren't that sort so you could definitely shift it for a pretty high price, but just not here.

  • As much as I'm supportive of a (fellow) 'nago restorer...and as someone who was looking to do the yellow cabling on cream frame, this is a bit 'so close yet so far'.

Whether or not those stickers are period correct (I'm a bit out the game to remember, though the look like the stannard 80's Super decals, whereas your frame looks more like a very early one when the Sport was becoming the Super, if you had used the earlier decals (with the smaller downtube Colnago and yellow headtube sticker) I would have been in heaven (trying to find a pic of one that nearly inspired me to get a re-spray). But still nowhere near £1200 heaven.

That era (pre-seatstay pantographing) just isn't as desirable as the Super/Mexico's that followed. In fact I don't think I've seen one go for 4 figures.

  • I'm sure I've seen one fully built with the yellow cables, but this one is proper nice

  • PS...
rear cable should be routed other side of the seat tube, chain too short???

  • I'm sure I've seen one fully built with the yellow cables, but this one is proper nice

    there ya go...

  • Part inspiration for the colour scheme is here.

I'm sorry to have offended so many with highly over optimistic pricing. Next time I will be more modest.

I s'pose I have relegated myself to fleaby to shift this "sunny-day ponce transporter"

If anyone is interested, I will post the auction listing in here when I put it up.

  • There you go! Tbh a change of bar tape to silver would be a doable fix that would improve things somewhat.

You won't be the first nor last to overestimate the value of a pride and joy you've slaved over...Fingers crossed a Yank/Japanese collector is feeling flush and fancies it on ebay.

  • P.S. Thanks for all the tips/positive feedback. I agree with almost all of them. Dan W - Silver vinyl bar tape? I didn't really like the yellow once in place, and it was put on sloppily anyway. Could you post me a link to something which would be nicer IYO?

  • This is my goto Colnago wank material though notably has also a brown saddle to match the hoods. Silver bar tape make the bars look innocuous which is key when the rest of the build is design/feature packed [/GokWan]

  • This is mine (I bought it like this and haven't changed it as it looks ok, though not my ideal choice), and the brown leather looks ok, though would mean you changing your hoods which feels like a lot of effort/cost
