I rode past the ghost bike when I was visiting Swanage.
What surprised me is how clear, wide and visible the road is, emphasising on the width which even a medium sized lorry can overtake you safety.
It's the sort of collision that shouldn't even happened in the first place, RIP Rob.

That is disgusting, I know a case in which a motorcyclist was killed by a car, sentenced a few weeks ago to 4 1/2 years... HOW IS A CYCLIST LESS IMPORTANT!?

so very very sad. lets hope BC get somewhere with this one. RIP rob.

The Judicial system is a mess, and the cps are absolutely useless..
Sentencing Guidelines need to move forward, this shit wouldn't go down in France or Holland.

There is a thread under general where myself and others have criticised the BC article as poor journalism and pointed to a general lack of understanding of the judicial system in the UK.
However, while I would like to argue that the judicial system is a mess I would struggle to argue with the concept that the CPS is struggling. They are understaffed, underfunded and overloaded. I speak of the CPS from very personal and tragic personal experience. Something that I am willing to discuss in person, but not on here.
RIP Rob, a man who I never met who stood for several things I believe in. I hope that his family, friends and his killer are able to recover from this most awful of events and lead long, good and happy lives.

obviously i don't actually know the case you're talking about but i'd expect the car driver in your case was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving, not by careless driving. death by dangerous driving carries much higher sentences, as well it should.
also have a tiny bit of faith in our justice system at least in so far as this: i think we can be pretty sure that the difference in sentence will not have been because one of the victims was a cyclist and the other a motorcyclist.
looking at the picture of the road there it does seem strange that the driver could not see a cyclist, but i guess if the sun was in his eyes and he was fiddling with the radio and then got distracted by a big lorry coming the other way etc etc etc.
anyway another terrible tragedy. rip

I have also had a quite a bit of experience with the cps, so I have more of an idea than most. Unfortunately.

There's a memorial ride organised for 03 June.
We won't forget.

The story so far. Meet 12.30 Sunday June 3rd by the chain link ferry, Sandbanks side if you're coming from Poole way, Studland side if you're coming from Swanage. People on the Sandbanks ferry take the 12.40 crossing (£1 each way) to meet up with the Studland group. Then ride to Swanage pier for light refreshments (tea, coffee, chip butty etc).
Those that wish to can return to Sandbanks, while anyone who's up for a bit more can ride to the ghost bike on the Wareham bypass. The route is: Worth Matravers, Kingston, Corfe Castle, Arne, Stoborough and on to the A354.
If you're from out of the area, buddy up with a local that rides at your speed and stick with them.
Everybody is welcome, friends, family, passing acquaintances, everybody.

Sandbanks is about 1/2hrs ride from Poole Railway station. Trains go from Waterloo, leaving @ 8.30am. There's car parking about half a mile from the ferry.

Looking forward to coming down for this, hopefully we'll have a decent contingent of Brixton riders down there for the team pursuit head to head with Poole Wheelers, two clubs that were close to Rob's heart.
Also in memory of Big Rob -
